My "Love Song" To My Wife, Lynne
Early in our relationship, I decided that I would profess my love
to Lynne Nugent, who I had been dating for a few months by the time
her birthday rolled around in 2003.
For that special day, I decided to commission a song from a musician-businessman
in Florida who, for $100, turns lyrics into an actual song. I titled
it "Oh, Lynne," and you
can listen to it here.
Also, I swiped the wedding video of Lynne and I getting married
at the Graceland Wedding Chapel -- which the good folks there edited
and set to the tune of an Elvis song -- and used the "Oh, Lynne"
song instead. You can watch
it in high resolution here, or in low
resolution here.
Here are the lyrics (I asked musician-businessman to follow my
lyrics exactly, and to my surprise, he did!):
Oh Lynne…, by Kembrew McLeod
Oh Lynne, you are my baby
And I don’t mean maybe.
When I look into your eyes
You full my heart with sighs
For words can’t describe that emotion
When I drink from you love potion
Chorus [harmonize]:
Oh Lynne Nugent, you are so great
Though I know that the word “great”
Trivializes and doesn’t do justice to
The awesomeness that is you!
You do something I can’t explain.
Hold me closer and I feel no pain.
You healed my heart like a surgeon
And now I feel like a virgin.
Touched for the very first time
By you--my sweet child ‘o mine.
Chorus [harmonize]:
Oh Lynne Nugent, you are so great
Though I know that the word “great”
Trivializes and doesn’t do justice to
The awesomeness that is you!
Islands in the stream is what we are
Stay with me, baby, and I’ll take you far.
Like Bon Jovi, I’ll be there for you
Words can’t say what love can do.
You rock my soul and light up my life
You took away all my strife.
Bridge [very passionate]:
I can’t find a word that rhymes with your last name
And to me that is a goddamn shame.
I must admit that it makes me feel ignorant [pronounce it like “ant”],
Like an uncreative and inarticulate sycophant
Because even that jerk Sting could find the only word that rhymes
with tragic
When he wrote Every Little Thing She Does is Magic
... and it is a tragedy, baby!
Chorus [harmonize]:
Oh Lynne Nugent, you are so great
Though I know that the word “great”
Trivializes and doesn’t do justice to
The awesomeness that is you!
[fade out]
You
You
You are so awesome!
You
You
You are so awesome!
You
You
You are so awesome!
Awesome awesome awesome!
