My Zine: Freedom of
Expression
Freedom of Expression is an ongoing project I started in 1993 that
lies at a unique juncture where art, scholarship, professional wrestling,
and crack-smoking meet.
The mundane reality of its origins lie in the fact that I needed
a commodity attached to the trademark "Freedom of Expression,"
so I began selling this publication in 1993.
In January of 1998 I was granted ownership of the phrase "Freedom
of Expression" by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
It was a conceptual art coup I could never have pulled off if not
for the fact that the US government doesn't understand irony.
This "publication" has explored a variety of formats
and themes, and it appears to have stopped with issue #18, though
one day I may bring it back.
Satisfied customers include Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and hundreds
of others who bought an issue through the mail or at record stores.
